Delhi CM Kejriwal's Health in Focus: Legal Battle Over Diet and Medical Care

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's health has become a focal point of legal contention during his time in judicial custody at Tihar jail. The Chief Minister has been detained since March 21, in connection with an alleged scam tied to Delhi's excise policy. Recently, Kejriwal filed a fresh plea seeking permission for daily medical consultations and insulin administration, citing acute diabetes and fluctuating blood sugar levels posing a high risk to his health.

During a recent court hearing, the issue of Kejriwal's diet surfaced, particularly regarding his alleged consumption of mangoes and sweets. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) claimed that Kejriwal was intentionally eating these foods to raise his sugar levels and possibly create medical grounds for bail. Kejriwal's counsel vehemently denied these allegations, emphasizing that the Chief Minister was following his prescribed diet with only minor deviations.

The court also scrutinized the food provided to Kejriwal, noting discrepancies from the prescribed diet. Despite this, Kejriwal's lawyer argued that he had mostly adhered to the diet chart, with exceptions such as consuming mangoes three times and having aloo poori once as part of prashad.

Kejriwal's counsel stressed the importance of his health, asserting that being in custody did not strip him of his right to medical treatment. They requested daily consultations with his doctor through video conferencing to manage his diabetes effectively.

The court has sought clarifications regarding the diet provided to Kejriwal and the deviations from the prescribed diet chart. The matter remains ongoing, with the court expected to deliver its verdict on Kejriwal's plea on Monday, which will determine the course of his medical treatment while in custody.
